Alaska/Seattle - Winter 2004

Hi everyone,

This is just a six-page (raw) dump (unprocessed) of all the photos I took on the Alaska/Seattle trip in February 2004. I was using a new digital point-and-shoot camera at the time, and hadn't quite figured out how to deal with the white balance. Sorry! (This is mostly here for relatives and friends, but if you enjoy it, great!)

At the car park at Tucson International, prior to our departure, we ran across the Trading Spaces truck and trailer. Trading Spaces is a somewhat more lame and vindictive American version of a BBC series.

Also at the car park, this highly decorated sedan turned out to be owned by the shuttle bus driver who took us to the terminal.

The San Francisco Peaks, with Humphries Peak, the tallest mountain in Arizona.

Coming up on Grand Canyon.

Grand Canyon.

On our landing approach to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Typical Seattle weather conditions.

Day one in Anchorage, Alaska. Temperature about five below. A bit of a shock on this day as we had been in Arizona less than a day prior, but we acclimated quickly to the cold and the thick air. (Anchorage is at sea level, while our Sierra Vista bedroom is at 4700 feet.)

After interview number one, we noticed that the restaraunt had a standard Anchorage view of the Chugach Mountains.

Another shot just in case.

Karen, rather smug after nailing her first interview, at Bering Sea Animal Hospital.

Still smug.

The next shots are a panorama at the Bear Tooth restaurant in downtown Anchorage (near both REI and TitleWave). I haven't stitched them together just yet.

The next day, we joined Debra, John and Tammy for a day of bopping around greater Anchorage.

My first exposure to frozen seawater.

In film cameras, you set your white balance in the printing (or scanning) stage. With a digital camera, you do it before you shoot. I'll have to get used to that.....

John took the next three for us, since I was stuck driving the car and couldn't get far off the road due to this weird frozen water stuff they have all over the place up there.

At the animal park in Portage.

American Bison.

"Get that camera out of my face."

Another American Bison.

John and Karen being assaulted by Sitka black-tailed deer which really enjoyed licking people.
